Amateur astronomers have long appreciated the StarSeeker's quality, economy, and remarkable ease of use. The new StarSeeker 100mm GoTo Refractor makes this popular design even better with more light grasp—56 percent more than an 80mm scope. That means a host of galaxies, star clusters, and nebulas are within your reach, along with bigger, sharper views of the moon and planets. And with the computer controlled GoTo mount, finding them couldn't be easier.
The key is the StarSeeker's GoTo guidance system featuring a database of 4,000 celestial objects. A push of a button on the hand controller automatically brings your target into view—and keeps it there.
SkyAlign technology makes the initial alignment a snap. Simply enter the date, time and your location. Then pick any three widely separated bright objects in a triangular pattern (the objects should be at least 60 degrees apart). The GoTo system will automatically figure out which objects you chose and do the alignment for you. You don't need to point the telescope north or level the optical system—you don't even need to know the names of the objects. The GoTo system does all the work.
Refractors are renowned for crystal clear images and the StarSeeker is no exception. The 100mm multi-coated objective doublet lens delivers sharp images with excellent brightness. All air-to-glass surfaces are coated, with at least one surface multicoated. Its 600mm, f/6 optical system means this versatile instrument is great for observing and photography. The optical tube has an attractive metallic green finish. It's fully equipped with 1.25-inch rack-and-pinion focuser, star diagonal, 10mm and 25mm Kellner eyepieces, and a red-dot finder to aid in the initial alignment.
The unique single-arm mount is made from cast metal for stability and durability. And the pre-assembled aluminum tripod means your portable observatory will be up-and-running in minutes.
The system runs for hours on eight AA batteries (not included). Or use an optional rechargeable 12-volt DC battery, such as the Dynamo Pro (#2307) or an AC adapter (#7234). Two year limited warranty.
