Oh, if we had a nickel for every time we've been asked, "When are you going to come out with a bigger (than 127mm) Mak?" We'd be writing this from our branch office on the Maui beachfront.

Cut from island fantasy to astronomy fantasy .... because we've got what you have been wishing for. Our Orion 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope Optical Tube opens up new vistas of the celestial landscape for your viewing pleasure, putting superior resolving power at your disposal. The 150mm-diameter Maksutov-Cassegrain optics take in 40% more light than their 127mm counterparts, which means this big Maksutov will resolve finer detail in lunar and planetary subjects and permit exploration of a wider array of deep-sky objects.

The meniscus lens is fully multi-coated for maximum light transmission. The long focal length of 1800mm (f/12.0) belies the telescope's compact tube, which measures just 17" long (including visual back on rear cell), for excellent portability. It couples to the Orion SkyView Pro mount's equatorial head via a dovetail rail, allowing quick setup and take-down. The telescope mount provides precision equatorial control and accepts optional TrueTrack single-axis and dual-axis DC drives.

The sturdy aluminum Orion 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope Optical Tube is outfitted with metal front and rear cells. It features a large helical focusing knob, a threaded visual back that accepts a 1.25" diagonal or camera T-ring (sold separately), a dovetail finder scope mount, a dovetail rail for attachment of the tube to an Orion SkyView Pro mount (or Celestron CG-5), and dust cap. One-year limited warranty.

I've been imaging the moon for almost two decades and I bought this scope specifically for that purpose. I use a digital SLR at prime focus and the results are just what I hoped for. I got some great images right away. The instrument was in collimation and seems diffraction or atmospheric limited, not scope limited. With an eyepiece I can get to a couple of arc seconds resolution easily. Focus has very little hysteresis. I'm very happy with this scope and the price.

I had the chance to try out my new Orion 150mm Mak-Cas the other night as skies finally cleared in my area. I must say that this new telescope more than surpassed my expectations. Viewing Jupiter, I was clearly able to discern the Great Red Spot hollow even through atmospheric shimmering due to the planet currently being at a low altitude for me here at my more northerly observing site. I found the focusing to be very accurate with a nice feel to the focusing knob with no apparent image shifting. I next turned my attention to the globular cluster M13 in Hercules. Even through my relatively light polluted skies at higher powers many stars were resolved right to the core of the cluster. Although the images are not quite as bright, this Mak compares quite favorably to my 6.1 inch apochromatic refractor costing thousands of dollars more. I therefore consider this telescope an outstanding value, both for the novice as well as the more advanced amateur astronomer.

This is my third scope and my first from Orion. Along with this, I also purchased the Orion dielectric diagonal. I intended to use it only for traveling, but what the hey, it sets up fast (with my Atlas EQ mount, thanks Orion) and has enough aperture to get by with observing bright M and NGC objects in my city with magnitude 3 skies. Of course the field is narrow but with a decent 30mm eyepiece, deep sky objects are still within grasp and at high power, planets have never looked better. As far as optics, I only own Newtonians but this bad boy blows those views out of the water with images that are almost "apo-like" For a night of easy viewing, take this tube, two eyepieces (a low and a mid power), a 2x barlow and that's it (don't forget the mount, finder and a nap beforehand). Looking at all my eyepieces (Orion Stratuses and Edge-Ons) and other general accessories, I am beginning to see that Orion is dominating my hobby with quality items without having me to live off pocket lint.

Great scope. Mounted on Alt/Azm, easy to carry out and in. View is great... can't see much of a difference over my other 8" scopes which were too heavy and or cumbersome to set up. Now I just need a device to mount on the scope like a My Sky or the Celes.version... more reasonable and designed for mounting on a scope.

I wanted to upgrade from my 102mm refractor for at-home, almost grab-no-go observing in my front yard. I looked to this Maksutov type of scope because it was one step up in size, was a short tube and thus easy to keep handy and gave me enough aperture to make my observing "serious". The optics are sharp, as everyone who has seen it agrees. The weight is easily managed by anyone. The views have no discernible coma or coloration. All-in-all, this is a worthy addition to my small collection of telescopes, a wise purchase.

Beautiful scope. Finish was very nice and optics were spot on collimated from the factory. Mechanicals are smooth and solid. Nice sharp views of planets and moon. Tube is a bit heavy for a scope of it's size. Wish that it could have had a standard SCT back for additional accessories like a secondary focuser and focal reducers. A very good all-around scope.
