Imagine a telescope so small you can tuck it into a daypack or store it on a bookshelf, yet so powerful that it has the magnification and light-gathering capability of traditional telescopes five times its size .... Imagine a telescope equally at home looking an eagle in the eye or revealing the cloud bands of Jupiter .... Imagine a telescope made the old-fashioned way, of enameled aluminum and precision optical glass, instead of plastic. And imagine that these telescopes are incredibly competitively priced. As you can imagine, we've got it. The Orion Apex 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope, only from Orion.

One look at it and you immediately appreciate its abbreviated simplicity and quality details. But the proof of any great telescope is in the viewing. And one look through our Apex 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope will prove that it's as long on optical excellence as it is short in profile. A serious telescope only incredibly portable.

Big Aperture Maksutov-Cassegrain Optics
The secret is in the light-folding Maksutov-Cassegrain design. It permits large-diameter optics, 90mm, to be housed in an unusually compact, wonderfully portable tube. As a spotting telescope the Apex 90mm gathers more light than typical field telescopes (often costing several times more), serving up brighter, more highly resolved images even in the dimmest of lighting conditions. Multi-coatings applied to the curved front lens guarantee the highest possible light transmission. For astronomy, the Apex 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope exhibits all the performance of classic long-tube 90mm refractors, and easily outperforms smaller refractors on views of the planets and Moon as well as on faint nebulas and star clusters. Its long focal length allows high-power study of Jupiter's cloud belts and Red Spot, and Saturn's rings, and provides long reach for capturing distant terrestrial targets. What's more, Apex telescopes accept standard 1.25" telescope eyepieces for nearly unlimited magnification options.

Speaking of accessories, the Apex 90mm comes with a multi-coated 25mm Sirius Plossl telescope eyepiece (1.25") and a 45° diagonal that provides a correctly-oriented field of view. As does the correct-image finder scope (6x20 on Apex 90), which makes locating objects a cinch. The finder scope is held in a quick-release dovetail bracket for easy assembly and disassembly. And here's something special: we also include a rugged, fully padded carrying case to protect your telescope. It's got hand and shoulder straps and ample pockets for accessories.

The telescope easily pops on and off a telescope mount or camera tripod with the built-in 1/4"-20 adapter plate. And it doubles as a high-power telephoto lens for photography, too. Just mount a 35mm camera body (with optional T-ring) to the T-threads on the eyepiece holder and you're all set!

Imagine, a telescope that's this versatile, this powerful, this portable. And on top of all that, this competitively priced! It's here, in the Orion Apex 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope. Take a look! One-year limited warranty.

First night I used the telescope, I got a great view of Jupiter and the Galilean moons. Looking forward to many cloudless nights.

The Orion Apex 90mm is an excellent grab and go telescope, its solid well made scope that is powerful for its size, and easy to work with. This scope is able to be attached to your camera tripod for viewing which is very convenient, but I would suggest a sturdy tripod because of shaking. The scope comes with a good 25mm eyepiece and telescope case to keep it protected when traveling or storing. I was able to see Saturn, Venus, Orions nebula, and some star clusters with this scope on my first night out with the Apex. My only con with the scope is its light gathering capability is small because of the small aperture, but that is a given for its small size, but if you would like a small, yet powerful scope that is easy to work with, the Apex is a good choice. I also just shot some pics of the moon with my canon 40D attached to the Apex (need T ring to attach) and the images where sharp and clear. The Apex is a good portable telescope, and my experience with Orion was great.

I picked up the 90mm as a guide scope for my 8" Orion SCT. The scope performs flawlessly when used for this purpose. I have considered experimenting with it as an imaging scope, but I'm afraid it's too slow for the task on anything but bright objects. The scope is clear and I didn't quite expect the quality that Orion delivered in this little scope for such a low price. Once again, Orion has exceeded my expectation in product quality and customer service!

I was pleased with the quality of the little scope, it was all that was advertised. The compact size is perfect for what I want to do, however, I wish I would have spent a little more money and got a larger aperture. I got it out and played with it for a couple of hours, and once I figured out all the controls and got the aim in the finder scope, it was a joy to use. The sky conditions were not the best for viewing but I had to get the new toy out and play. Mars was pretty cool, but Saturn and its rings are a must see. I could actually see the rings and one of its moons. I tried to maginfy a to a 7.5 mm eye piece and it was just too much for the sky conditions. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, just wish I would have spent more and got more.

I use the Orion Apex 90mm as my portable gun range spotting scope and it is probably one of the very best price/performance scope available for that application. So far, I shoot out to 300 yards and the Apex when combined with the right eyepiece, can spot the bullet holes at that range. The spotter I used before the Apex is the Pentax 100PF (one of the highest end spotters money can buy). Yes the Pentax is better but the Apex is 75% of the Pentax at 1/7th its price (a bigger Apex may be 90% at 1/5th the price). With the Apex, eyepiece selection is important. The Apex has a small .965" exit hole for its light path in the back so it does not agree with widefield eyepieces (especially at low powers). Use narrower FOV eyepieces and you will be well rewarded. However, widefield eyepieces will result in more washed out images because the eyepiece will be displaying parts of the scope outside the light path which reduces contrast. The combo I use is the Siebert Performance Series 35mm (FOV of 47 degrees) and Edmund RKE 28mm. The Siebert with Apex gives wonderful, high resolution images with very long eyerelief. The Edmund isn't too shabby either. Many people at the gun range have come up to me to peer into my Apex and were breathless at the image fidelity of this combo. The fine print on targets at 200 yards is readable. The next question I usually get is where did I get it and how much did I pay. After telling them, they wanted to get one too. That is how good the Apex/Siebert combo is.
