Ample light grasp...Check. Portable...Check. Stable mount...Check. Quick setup and take-down...Check. Easy to operate...Check. Affordable...Check.

As you run through the checklist of attributes you've heard are important in a good beginner's telescope, you realize that the Orion SkyQuest XT6 Classic Dobsonian Telescope meets all the criteria - in spades. Astronomy magazine called it "an excellent entry-level Dobsonian telescope for an adult."

It's a telescope that opens up limitless observing possibilities. With its big 150mm diameter parabolic primary mirror the SkyQuest XT6 Classic Dobsonian Telescope collects nearly 80% more light than a 4.5" reflector, rendering brighter images and greater detail in deep-sky nebulas and star clusters. And the 1200mm focal length gives the telescope ample power to zoom in on subtle planetary and lunar features.

The 45"-long enameled-steel optical tube glides wtih silky smoothness on the cabinet-quality Dobsonian wood base. You just point the telescope and view! Orion-engineered CorrecTension springs keep the tube balanced to perfection and allow the whole unit to be carried together by the handle on the base.

The XT6 is outfitted with a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser, an EZ Finder II reflex sight, collimation cap, and a 25mm Sirius Plössl telescope eyepiece. The mirror is center-marked for precise collimation. The Orion SkyQuest XT6 Classic Dobsonian Telescope...Check it out, today! One-year limited warranty.

This scope was an early Christmas present from my husband. We have been able to view the moon perfectly a few times (been a lot of cloud filled days lately). We have seen it through night [even with street lights all around us] and day views. It was his first time seeing the moon through a scope. We are really happy with this piece. Plan on going to the beach on a clear night and discovering more. Also plan to get a larger eyepiece sometime soon. Great scope. Would recommend to everyone. Good price on all of the Dobs. Well done Orion!

I really like this telescope! I wish it came with more eyepieces, but you can still see a variety of objects with the one eyepiece it comes with! For example, the first night I used it, I looked at: The Orion Nebula (M42), Jupiter and the 4 Galilean moons, the Pleiades, the Double Cluster in Perseus, Mars, and the Andromeda Galaxy (M31)! It's fairly easy to use, the only two things that can be difficult to adjust are the EZ Finder, and collimating the mirrors.

I've had my SkyQuest XT6 for only a few weeks. I love looking at deep sky objects but my real passion is the Moon and planets. Through my XT6, the craters and mountains of the Moon are razor sharp. I can't even imagine it being any sharper in ANY other scope. Jupiter also looks great: amazingly sharp and well-defined. I had an 8" f/6 mirror custom made to precise optics once that didn't perform as well this XT6 does. But what's so amazing about it all is getting such precise optics, a metal optical tube (rather than cardboard or other cheap materials), and a very sturdy mount, all at an unbelievably low price. My XT6 is a beautiful optical instrument that I'm extremely proud of. Kudos to Orion for offering a telescope of incredible performance at an incredible price!

The XT6 telescope was a cinch to set up. My first light experience was the moon and Jupiter. Using the 25 mm lens that came with the scope, I was happy with the sharpness of the moon features along the terminator. I'm waiting for a clearer night for a better look at Jupiter. For a quick set up and portable telescope with a decent aperture, I am very happy with it. I also purchased a 2X barlow I'm anxious to try out on a clear night.

This was my first telescope purchase, and I must say I am very pleased. The second night I had it I was able to see Jupiter with all 4 moons and stripes with the 25mm eyepiece off my balcony in my light polluted apartment complex. Being able to see that with floodlights right next to me is impressive! I can't wait to get some more powerful eyepieces so that I can get some better magnification, and try to get to some darker areas to see what this baby can really do. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get a good telescope for cheap - its not great for astrophotography, but for observing it is amazing.

I am very pleased with the scope. It came on time, well packed and assembled easily. The red dot finder scope is very useful and accurate. The optics are even much better than I expected. Viewing Jupiter, at low magnification, the four visible moons are clear, well defined, pin heads, while the features of the moon are large, very clear and crisp and that is viewing from my drive way which has a huge amount of light pollution and thermals from the cooling asphalt. I had considered buying the larger XT8, but was worried about the additional weight , of lifting it, with my bad knee, into the back of our car to use it where it is much darker. Though, really no weight problem. Thus I should have gone for the XT8s 200 mm aperture. Still great fun.

For a long time I have stared into the night sky, looking at stars. Finally I thought that it's about time I got myself a telescope. After researching several models for beginners, I was left indecisive, but thanks to many telescope experts, I now possess this model and it's wonderful. Easy to use and gives great view of some nearest planets, the moon especially looks gorgeous with some additional filters. Even if you want to show it off, the telescope is great as an eye candy, sleek model in my opinion, a little heavy though. On plus side, it can be a great work out. I highly recommend this for beginners before moving onto more pro-scopes.

I've had this scope for a while now and couldn't be happier.Easy to set up and use and gives great views with my 6mm, 10mm and 25mm eyepieces.Unless you become a fanatic you won't need to upgrade to a bigger scope as the capabilities of this scope are enough to keep the beginner and part time astromer happy for a long time.

This was my first telescope so I didn't know what to expect. I got this telescope in November 08', great telescope. Love everything about it, easy to assemble, easy to collimate, easy to set up, and fantastic views. I didn't now how good this telescope was until I bought a 12" dob recently (aperture fever got me), this one keeps right up with my 12", a little dimmer but that was to be expected. If your thinking about this as a beginner telescope its a great choice. If your deciding between this and a larger one, get this one. Its easier to move around and the views aren't that different, like I said just a little bit dimmer.

After reading Steve Millers review which recommended an Orion SkyQuest Dobsonian, I knew it was the right first scope! The XT6 shows amazing views - I have seen Saturn with its rings clearly so far...considering Saturn is more than 800 million miles from the earth. Its not a small scope - more than 4 feet in length and about 40 lbs. - however, the views are more than worth it!

Bought the telescope last January. Took a month for me to receive the scope (had to re-ship it from Chicago to the Philippines). There was no problem in assembling the base and collimating the optics. I wasnt able to test it when it arrived since it was cloudy at that time. The next night, I was able to try it. The very first celestial object I found was Saturn. On the next night was Venus. I'll try to see if I can catch a glimpse of Lulin. Havent tried the other accessories I bought for the scope yet, though. Overall, a very good and easy to use beginner scope.

This telescope is one of the best that I have ever used. Although this is the first telescope I've owned I have used many in my experience in boy scouts it is the best out of all the other 6'' telescope I have used.

My 8-year old son saved his money for well over a year to purchase this telescope, and we all couldn't be happier! Not only have we loved viewing the moon, Jupiter, Venus, and M- 31...frankly, the experience has brought my son and I even closer together. For Christmas we ordered a Barlow and Solar Filter...can't wait! This is the purchase of a lifetime...

This is my first telescope, and I don't have anything to reference it to. So far it has been great. I have seen Jupiter and several star clusters. I got my first good look at the moon tonight and it was amazing. It would have been nice if this telescope came with two eyepieces ( like a 10 and 25 mm), but for the price I won't complain too much. The only downsides are the bulkiness and the finder scope. in all, the good far outweigh the bad.

After trial and error with other telescopes I'm 100% happy with this Dobsonian. It was extremely easy to assemble and the scope is really impressive. I loved the (accessories) I received. I wish I only knew more about what I needed and bought a light pollution filter with it. Other than that its an awsome product
