With StarSeeker telescopes, if you can push a button, then you can stargaze like a pro astronomer. Because the telescope does the rest, moving automatically and pointing right to any celestial object you select with the pushbutton hand controller. This high-tech 70mm refractor telescope will turn even the absolute skywatching novice into an instant astronomer. It incorporates the latest computerized object-locating technology, which automatically points the scope to any target you select from the electronic library of 4,000+ astronomical objects! And it features the revolutionary SkyAlign technology, which makes the initial alignment of the telescope as easy as pointing the scope to any three bright stars or planets — and you don't even have to know their names. You don't have to know the constellations or know how to read a star map. StarSeekers make stargazing easy for everyone!
Using the red-illuminated hand controller (included), you just select an object from one of the user-friendly menus, and twin high-precision servo motors in the single-arm mount guide the scope to it at up to 4 degrees per second, putting it right in the eyepiece for you to view. The StarSeeker then tracks the object so it will stay in the field of view until you're ready to move on to the next object.
The StarSeeker 70mm model is the most affordable GoTo scope you'll find with so many great features. It's perfect for the budget-minded family and a great gift for the novice astronomer, young or old. It will provide revealing views of lunar craters, Saturn and its ring system, and a wide array of nebulas and star clusters. That's thanks to its 70mm (2.8") achromatic objective lens, which is multi-coated for yield sharp images with excellent brightness.
The StarSeeker's mount is solidly constructed of cast metal, for greater stability and durability compared to other GoTo scopes in its class, which have a lot of plastic parts. With its sturdy, pre-assembled aluminum tripod, the StarSeeker 80 can be set up and ready to use in minutes.
The telescope comes equipped with a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser, two quality 1.25" Kellner eyepieces, a star diagonal, and a red-dot finder scope to aid in the initial alignment.
Power is supplied by eight AA batteries (not included) in an external battery pack, or by an optional 12-volt DC battery such as the Orion Dynamo (#2305). An optional AC adapter (#7234) is also available for use of household 110-volt power. Two-year limited warranty.
The StarSeekers' Library of 4,033 Objects includes:
