Orion AstroView 6 Equatorial Reflector Telescope
  • All-around performance at a great price for those who want to move beyond the typical starter scope
  • 150mm aperture and 750mm focal length for pleasing images of a rich variety of celestial objects
  • Includes sturdy tripod and equatorial mount for hands-free celestial tracking
  • Includes 2 eyepieces, finder scope, focuser, polar scope, and FREE Starry Night astronomy software
  • One-year limited warranty

If you've "graduated" from a small refractor, or you want your first telescope to have more light-gathering power than the typical starter telescope offers, then step up to the Orion AstroView 6 Equatorial Reflector Telescope.

It's hard to beat this 6"-class equatorial reflector telescope for all-around performance at a great price. Its 150mm-diameter parabolic Newtonian optics (focal length 750mm, f/5) pull down pleasing images of a rich variety of celestial objects. With the included 10mm Plossl telescope eyepiece (1.25"), you'll roam detailed lunar landscapes at 75x, or see distinct, variegated cloud bands on Jupiter's disk. Pop in the 25mm Plossl for some deep-sky thrills, where modest 30x power rewards you with never-before-seen (by you) images of nebulas and star clusters framed in a wide circle of starry blackness. With additional (optional) telescope eyepieces or a barlow lens, you can push the power to 150x or more.

Metal tube rings fasten the 27"-long optical tube to the sturdy EQ-3 equatorial mount. The manual slow-motion controls let you center objects in the viewing field, then manually track their motion. Or, add the optional single-or dual-axis EQ-3 DC drive to power the scope electronically. The EQ-3 mount comes with a precision polar-alignment scope for aligning the telescope to track properly. The adjustable aluminum tripod provides ample stability and the leg braces are hinged at the center for quick setup and fold-up. A roomy accessory tray is also included.

The AstroView 6 Equatorial has high-quality features for such an affordable price, such as an aluminum 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser with two thumbscrews to lock the telescope eyepiece in place, and a four-vane, adjustable secondary mirror support. The 6x30 achromatic crosshair finder scope helps you locate your target. It has easy, spring-loaded X-Y adjustment and a quick-release dovetail bracket. Collimation thumbscrews make occasional alignment of the optics an easy, tool-free procedure. And we even throw in a "collimation cap" for checking the telescope's mirror alignment.

Treat yourself, your friends, and your family to some wondrous evenings under the stars with the Orion AstroView 6 Equatorial Reflector Telescope! Weighs 39 lbs. One-year limited warranty.

This is the 1st telescope I've ever owned and it far surpassed my expectations. I was first looking for a smaller scope good for a novice and initially was going to buy the Space Probe 130mm, but in seeing the price exchange for the full 6" I knew I had to get the bigger of the "buckets" and was not the least bit disappointed. Assembly took far less time than I had initially thought it would, is it my mistake or did it come mostly assembled becuase in the instructions steps it said to complete were already done, GREAT HELP. On my first clear night out I stayed up until the Sun came up, I nabbed the opportunity to see 4 out of the 8 major Planets in the Solar System on that one clear night. Saturn early in the evening, the rings are currently not visible as rings but are clearly noticable as an encircling line around the massive disk, can't wait until August to see her in her glory, rings and all !! A little before Midnight I swept over from the West to the SE and caught the main event of the night in Jupiter and the rest of Jovian System, the clarity in which you can see the surface of Jupiter is simply AMAZING cloud bands stretch across her surface almost looking like a giant equal sign across the disk, the Galilean Moons were spectacular as well the brightness being emitted off the stars alone was enough to shoot long bright cross haris of light into my eyepiece, made for very easy finding in the 75x provided eyepiece, all the detail I mentioned on the surface comes out when you pop in the 10x provided eye piece. Then for the night cap around 4-5 in the am, I sweep E for the spectacular shot of bright as day Venus and not so bright Mars in the same eye shot. You can clearly make out the various phases of the giant planet through both provided eye pieces. With Mars hanging around in the background emanating it's Reddish Glow against the rising sun lit backdrop of the Eastern sky. I have been able to locate and observe some of the various Open Clusters and Nebulas in the Scorpio, and Tea Kettle area of the sky, and they look great too, the power of the scope provides ample splitting power for those tiny clusters full of countelss stars. All that 3 days after getting the box here at the office, the ease of use and overall quality makes this scope a superb and I do mean SUPERB starter scope.

My first impression is "well done", this scope for the price can't be beat.Very well packaged and all the parts were there, making it very easy to assemble. The scope was well collimated and little twiking was required. The mount looks to be stable and well made for an offshore product, finish is decent with good fit-up of components. Optics are fine for this price instrument.Only one very minor complaint ,the two included lenses have no cases supplied. I have discarded the 6x30 finder for a right angle 9 x50. Overall well done Orion.

This is the first scope that I have ever owned. I have been waiting until I struck it rich so I could buy the best telescope ever. I did not want to cheat myself by buying a cheap beginner scope that basically just made things brighter. I have yet to strike it rich but couldn't wait any longer so I bought the AstroView 6 EQ thinking that it was at the high end of beginner scopes and would be better than nothing. When I saw the cloud bands on Jupiter for the first time, I almost couldn't believe it. You can see them with the 10mm lens that comes with the scope. I added the 2x shorty barlow (the only accessory I purchased) and they became more crisp. The scope is big and looks cool in my bay window when I am not using it. I can't wait to see Saturn. The software is also very easy to use and is really cool by itself.

Easy to use, even for an old duffer. Assembly had a glitch: but, Tech provided top notch support. This low cost and light weight telescope is the perfect answer for the intermediate user.

I just moved up to the 6 inch aperture from a 114mm reflector. The scope was physically much larger than I expected. But at 40 some lbs., is still fairly easy to cart around. I can no longer use my little fold out seat because this scope sits up higher than the 114 did, even with the tripod at its lowest setting. Quality of the OTA and mount is excellent, and it is so much nicer having a quality finder scope that is accurate and easy to sight-in. The optics are crisp, clear and the views are much brighter and clearer than the 114. It wasn't a quantum leap better. but it was a significant upgrade. I am happy with the views but I am still having trouble resolving details on Mars and Saturn. I am sure that at some point in time I will bite the bullet and move up to an 8"-10" Catadioptric. But for now, and for the price, I am happy with this scope.

I purchased this scope in August 2007 and have been very impressed with its light gathering ability and visual detail. After using a small (60mm) refractor as a young person, this scope opens many new doors to astronomy that I had no idea were there 35 years ago! Highly recommended.
