Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector Telescope

Good telescope. You need better
eyepieces than the ones that came with
it to experience the full power of the
scope though. A dovetail attachment
would have been really nice. good views
of planets and star clusters. An
Equatorial mount is really convenient
at high powers compared to my dob. All
in all good scope.

Very good product--well built. Easy to
construct and use.

I have owned a couple of telescopes and
a couple of binoculars to help view the
night skies. When I compare the two
telescopes that I have owned so far, I
find the SpaceProbe 130mm wins hands
down in terms of sturdy construction,
exceptional planetary and lunar views
and portability. Coupled with the right
eyepieces and filters, you just can't go
wrong with this telescope. On my first
night out with this scope, I saw moon
and a whole host of details, that I
could not with my other scope. The last
few nights, I have also been able to see
the bands of Jupiter and with the right
filter, the great red spot on Jupiter.
This scope isn't just meant for the
beginners, I think a lot of advanced
amateurs also find this scope very
interesting, given the fact that it is
only about 30lbs. Besides, for the
price, this scope is an absolute steal!
The only reason I don't give this scope
a 5 star rating is because this scope
does not come with a dovetail plate
attachment to mount the scope on the EQ
mount - that would have really helped
with the portability aspect.

Dad is enjoying his Father's Day gift a
little early! The telescope is beautiful
and gives very crisp and clear images of
the stars, Saturn, and the canyons and
craters of the moon. However, the
instructions on how to put it together are
pretty poor. Otherwise, this is a great
and easy-to-use product and will be
enjoyed for years to come.

Being new to astronomy I did a little
research about reflecting telescopes, I
wanted a telescope that would show me
detailed views of galaxies, nebula some
planets. The Space probe 130 will show
you some detail in even the closest
objects but distant star cluster, galaxies
look like small gray smudges in this
scope, even most nebula are not visible
through this scope. Some objects I have
seen NGC 884+869,NGC 1976,M57,NGC
2392,NGC 3031+3034, Leo Triplet,M95+
96+105,M 51 to name a few and all were
best viewed by the supplied 25mm
Explorer eyepiece. One flaw that I have
found is on the eq mount where you
adjust the altitude the setting screw will
very easily strip the threads on the base
of the mount. You get what you pay for
with this telescope.

I got this Telescope about 4 months
ago & at first the only thing I could see
was the moon, which was breath-taking.
So much detail. I got to thinking I hope
the moon isn't the only thing I can see,
because I look all over the night sky & I
didn't see nothing, just stars. So I got to
looking on the internet & I found out that
I needed some eyepieces & filters. Once
I got those I could tell a huge diffrence. I
got a star chart & started finding plenty
of stuff to see. The Orion Neb. is so
amazing. Saturn is beautiful, Jupiter and
its 4 moons are, I can't put into words
really how it looks... U just have to look
for yourself to see what I'm talking
about.
For a 1st time buyer this telescope is all
you need... Trust me.... But now i am
about to buy the 8 in Sky Quest Dob... I
hope that's a good telescope...

A very capable scope for a beginner or
intermediate user. I have used the scope
for planetary, lunar, and Messier object
viewing. Pairing the included eyepieces
with a 2x barlow and a 15mm Expanse
eyepiece (item #05121 and #08922)
provides a well rounded viewing toolbox.
My favorite magnifications are 120x and
lower. Higher magnifications will show a
larger, less detailed object.
Because of the spherical mirror, stars
become commas toward the edge of the
view. For planetary, cluster, or nebula
viewing, this isn't as noticeable.
Planetary contrast is good, it is
possible to see a few of Jupiter's
bands, Saturn's rings and the Cassini
Division, and Mar's dark area.
Short exposure astrophotography is
possible, aka planetary (even M42), with
this scope and mount.
Portability is fair, it gets heavy when
moving it across a grassy field fully
assembled.
Rough polar alignment is easy, but to
get a better alignment requires some
work.
The included collimation cap is hard to
get right, buy a chesire(like item
#03640) or laser alignment eyepiece.
I would recommend this scope to those
on
a budget who don't mind a little coma in
their stars.
Some objects viewed: Moon, Venus,
Mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, M42,
M43, M33, M92, M13, M57, M27, M110,
M31,
and comets
