The newest addition to our SpaceProbe line of scopes is the niftiest equatorial reflector we've seen in a long time. It's a step up from the SpaceProbe 130 for the more serious beginning or intermediate stargazer who wants additional performance, particularly for targeting deep-sky objects.

Just what's so nifty about the Orion SpaceProbe 130ST Equatorial Reflector Telescope? The answer is "short and sweet."

First, the short. This "ST" version of the SpaceProbe 130 is indeed more compact than the standard model. The ST's optical tube measures 24" long compared to 33" on the standard 130. The focal length of the ST's 130mm (5.1") primary mirror is 650mm (f/5), yielding a wider field of view and brighter images for a given telescope eyepiece focal length.

That brings us to sweet. The primary is a diffraction-limited parabolic mirror, the same type used on much larger reflector telescopes costing many times as much. On a short-focal-length design like this one, a parabolic mirror is a must for focusing incoming light to a point and delivering sharp, detailed images. Moreover, the secondary mirror is held in an advanced holder with thin 0.5mm metal vanes, to reduce diffraction spikes and light loss. These features combined with the included 25mm (26x) and 10mm (65x) Sirius Plossl telescope eyepieces and quick-release 6x30 achromatic finder telescope make this one sweet optical system for astronomy! It also includes a collimation cap and center-marked primary mirror for easy optical alignment.

The 130ST telescope comes on an EQ-2 equatorial mount with dual setting circles and slow-motion hand controls. An optional EQ-2M or AstroTrack electronic drive can be added for automatic tracking. The adjustable aluminum tripod is strong yet lightweight and includes an accessory tray.

Whether you're looking for a better-quality first telescope or a portable telescope to complement your big Dobsonian, you'll love the Orion SpaceProbe 130ST EQ Reflector Telescope.

I highly recomend this scope for begginers. It is very easy to use. The only problem I had was collimating the secondary mirror and that was because I didn't take the time to fully read the instructions. My next scope will be an Orion atlas 10 eq-g go to reflector so I can go to a higher magnitude. I do love this scope.

For the very little amount of stargazing I've been able to do due to terrible weather, this scope has been amazing. It's my first, and was very easy to set up and get going. The instruction manual is incredibly easy to read, and teaches you how to do every necessary part step-by-step. Orion is an incredible company to buy telescopes from, and this scope is HIGHLY recommended.

Bought for my son. (I own 2 Orion scopes, an 8" reflector and a 6" refractor). This is an excellent scope and my son uses it a lot. For the price, its portable, and the views were very good. I would highly recommend the scope as a portable to take camping, etc. and as a starter for a person who has a little more than a casual interest.

This telescope gives good views of the planets, rings of Saturn and moons of Jupiter and Saturn with the eyepieces included. My first telescope and had no problems with assembly or use.

A fine starter scope. Top notch optics and, as always, I love the ease of use and adjustability of the finder scope. Once the equatorial mount is aligned on Polaris, it tracks very well with the turn of just one controller knob. Light weight and easy to grab and get out there observing. I did find the mount to a little light and have since moved to the Orion Astroview 6 inch reflector.

Surprising deep-sky performance! Really shows star colors and low- brightness objects! Low percentage of central obstruction for short tube, well thought-out optics and cell design. Good long-term telescope!

This is a wonderful scope geared for the beginning astromomer. The mount is solid and well-made. The mirror is flawless as far as f/5 parabolic reflectors go, and the Sirius plossls included give sharp views. I've had great views of Jupiter and Saturn through this scope, however you may want to get a high power eyepiece like the 6mm Expanse or a barlow for those. Another improvement would be a larger finder. All in all this is a first scope you will not regret!
