I commented here earlier about the excellent GoScope, but also its very poor-quality tripod. I am very pleased to report that, upon sending in the broken tripod for resolution, Orion quickly shipped me the new, improved GoScope tripod. Thank you for the excellent customer service.

I purchased the scope for my wife to look at the moon, planets and birds. She loves it and so do I. It is a quality product, easy to use and fun. The service was excellent. We will be purchasing again in the future. Thank you Tom

When I took it out of the box, I noticed that the focuser knob had come-off during shipment, and the interior focuser assembly was loose and wouldn't focus, therefore making the telescope unusable. I just shipped it back to Orion yesterday, for a replacement scope. I'm praying that the new scope has no defects in its' assembly. Out here in AZ, the evenings can be clear, and being far from the city lights, the evenings can be very 'dark' as well. I'm waiting for the ideal night for viewing, to test out the new scope (once it arrives, that is), so I can enjoy the mysteries in the sky.

Received my Orion GoScope 70 today. I was really surprised with the quality for the price I paid. The optics are great and to get a descent tripod and backpack with it is really a plus. I have a Meade Starfinder 10" dobsonian reflector and an AstroView 90mm refractor. I was looking for something small to take on camping trips and hikes. This works out great for what I was looking for. Thanks!

I bought Orion GoScope 70 Backpack Refractor Telescope. This product is right on money. Performs according to specifications. I've got it delivered to my door next day (very fast). Can't say anything negative.

My job requires me to travel 3 to 4 weeks out of every month, and since my 11" scope won't fit in the over head bin, i have just gone with out. Until now, this is a rough and tumble little scope and with no secondary mirror I am not worried about knocking it out of collimation, it fits great up in the overheads on even the small jet planes and the spacious padded back pack gives me additional storage for my second carry on. It takes me about two minutes to set up and I am looking at the stars. Of course the views don't equal my big scope but when I'm really jonesin, its great. In fact I was pleasantly surprised at how nice objects like the Pleiades and Jupiter came through in provided 20 and 10mm eye pieces. and with the orion slow motion adapter I can bump up the mag power and still keep my target centered. Truly a grab and go scope.

I have yet to use it due to me living in the cold north, but it is very easy to put together and very compact.

I had a stroke and can not lift heavy objects. I live in a 2nd story apartment and must use handrails going up and down steps. This Orion GoScope 70 Backpack Refractor Telescope is a blessing! I carry it on my back and my hands are free! The optics are wonderful. I used an Orion 6mm Expanse eyepiece with an Orion V block Anti-Fringe filter viewing the Moon centering on Copernicus and was amazed at the detail one can see with this size scope. I actually took pictures of it and it turned out beautifully! What a scope for the price!

The good -- a nice spotting scope and "lower than 45 degrees altitude" rich field telescope. Good for viewing the Plaedes, Andromeda Galaxy, Double Cluster, other "big" sky objects. I haven't tried it with a short eyepiece, so can't comment on it's use above 50x magnification. Mostly I use either a 25mm eyepiece or the Orion 7-21mm (I don't use the included 20 or 10mm eyepiece at all). The bad -- the 45-deg correct-image diagonal and the red dot finder won't fit another telescope (except the Transporter). I don't understand why Orion doesn't make the star diagonal which comes with the Transporter available separately!!?? Come on Orion. The Ugly -- tripod is useless. I replaced it with a Paragon HD-F2 Tripod which works well. Unfortunately, it won't all fit in the backpack -- will possibly look for a good 4 section tripod that will fit. In summary, not a bad scope. But for my needs, I wish I'd purchased the Transporter instead. I could purchase the 45-deg correct-image diagonal separately, and I'd have gotten the mini tripod/Equatorial mount to boot. Note from Orion - The GoScope tripod has been upgraded to provide smoother motion and increased stability.

I am very pleased with my GoScope 70 Backpack Refactor! Being an over the road trucker, I find the whole package very convenient to have, when I travel. For a small 350mm scope, I was impressed by how well I was able to observe, in such detail, lunar features and best of all, to site in on Jupiter! The 10mm eyepiece was strong enough to make out the stripes of Jupiters surface and to see the neighboring moons of Europa and Io! I was thrilled! Overall, a great product for a novice on the go! The backpack, itself, is very comfortable to wear and lightweight for hikes.

This is my first time buying a telescope and I am very satisfied with this scope. It was easy to use and the directions explained to me about the lens sizes and what they mean. Would have liked a higher magnification but this is a great start.

Overall, I am quite satisfied. Good value for the money. I have not used it with the supplied tripod because I have a better one. I will use the original for backpacking. I really like the red dot finder scope. I will be purchasing a wide-angle, long eye relief eyepiece for it for more usability and camera use.

For ...the price paid..., I wasn't expecting a Hubble 'scope, and the package of scope, tripod and backpack seemed kool.. its for my 9 year old son. What I'm VERY dissapointed in is the tripod... very cheesy! Specifically, panning or any movement of the 'scope is jerky, nearly impossible to adjust tightness of various knobs to overcome this. And if that panning handle is even a HAIR loose, the 'scope PLOPS forward and down scaring the jebbies out of you, in part because the quickmout on it is real cheap plastic with minimal engineering involved. If I figure out a fix I will post it. Note from Orion - The GoScope tripod has been upgraded to provide smoother motion and increased stability.

I received this as a birthday gift. Being full aware of the limits of smaller scopes, the scope itself has not let me down. I cannot say the same for the tripod. The package is marketed as a travel scope, so the whole set-up is extremely light. But it comes at the cost of a hair-trigger tripod that isn't terribly precise. As the other reviewer said, the software can't be registered for some reason, but that hasn't bothered me yet. It still does the job. Besides the tripod difficulties and the software that can't be updated, the actual telescope is great. I bought a set of eyepieces and filters and so far have enjoyed some wonderful moon shots, Jupiter and its moons, and a few nebula. Overall, it's a good starter scope. Just remember to have either an extreme amount of patience with the tripod provided or your own heavier, sturdier tripod. Note from Orion - The GoScope tripod has been upgraded to provide smoother motion and increased stability.

I got this scope because I travel a lot and needed something easy to take with me. The scope is fine and does what I want, however, the tripod is less than worthless. You will need a better one. Just looking at it makes it shake. The software that comes with the package, Starry Night Orion Special Edition is nice but you can't register it even tho you are asked to each time you open the program, so no updates or upgrades. The backpack is a great idea but mine had the shoulder straps sewed on backwards. I do not think it is worth the S and H charges, which you have to pay for, to send the whole package back just for the backpack issue. I will just buy a laptop pack that the scope will fit into. The backpack package is a good idea but there needs to be much more quality control done on this item. Note from Orion - The GoScope tripod has been upgraded to provide smoother motion and increased stability.
