The Meade Series 4000 32mm Super Pl�ssl eyepiece offers precision engineered Meade optics, with a wide field, sharp image, and a very satisfying view at a terrific cost.

Utilizing multi-coated optics and a 4-element design, the Series 4000 represents an excellent general-purpose eyepiece. Blackened lens edges minimize internal light bounce and glare, producing excellent contrast. The 4-element lens system is simple yet effective in providing high light transmission and a sharp image, ensuring crisp, bright images across the field of view at a very affordable cost. The eye relief is 19mm, allowing the entire field of view to be visible, even while wearing glasses. 32mm is considered low magnification, but of course it can vary depending on the focal length of the telescope being used with this eyepiece. As a benchmark, in a 1000mm focal length telescope, the magnification will be 31x, with a field of view of 1.7�. And in a shorter telescope such as an 80mm f/6 refractor (480mm focal length), the magnification is 15x with a very wide 3.5� field of view. 32mm is an excellent low magnification focal length eyepiece to have in your collection. Ideal for larger deep-sky objects in most all telescopes, regardless of size or focal length.

This Series 4000 eyepiece features a precision made standard 1.25" barrel and fold-down rubber eyeguard for comfortable viewing as well as for helping to block stray light. It is parfocal with other Series 4000 Super Pl�ssls meaning there will be little to no focus change when switching between eyepieces. The barrel is threaded for 1.25" eyepiece filters, and the eyepiece weighs just 4.2 oz (118g), with dimensions of 40mm x 78mm.

Beginner Level - Suited for a wide range of uses, these products are simple to operate and set up. Some initial assembly may be required depending on the type of product. Design

Different eyepiece designs allow for a wide range of features, depending on the needs of the observer. Orthoscopic and Plossl designs can provide a great quality image with a standard field of view, but may be difficult to use at higher powers while wearing glasses due to the short eye-relief. Long eye-relief designs have more elements and can be more expensive, but work very well with glasses, even at higher powers. Wide angle designs provide a larger view of the sky at the same power as a standard eyepiece. More complex designs can combine all these attributes together in a single eyepiece.

The distance, measured in millimeters, between the observer's eye and the eyepiece lens in which the entire field of view remains visible. Eye relief varies with the optical design but generally increases with decreasing magnification. Long eye relief is advantageous for observers who wear glasses, as they don't have to put their eye directly on the eyepiece to see the entire field of view, nor do they have to remove their eyewear.

Binocular lenses and prisms are often coated with anti-reflective material to minimize light loss as light travels through the multiple optical surfaces of a typical binocular. Coatings help maximize the amount of light transmitted through each glass surface of a binocular, so as much light as possible reaches the observer's eyes to provide a bright and sharp image.
Good lenses are at least "fully coated," with a single layer of magnesium fluoride coating applied to each air-to-glass lens surface. Multiple layers of coatings are even more effective; the term "multi-coated" means one or more air-to-glass lens surface has multiple coatings. "Fully multi-coated" optics are even better, meaning all lens surfaces have multiple layers of anti-reflective coatings applied for maximum light transmission and optimal image quality.
