How to measure your telescope

This affordable E-Series solar filter fits our fan-favorite Orion ShortTube 80mm Refractor Telescope optical tube assembly (OTA) and GoScope III 70mm Refractor Travel Telescope, so you can enjoy safe views of the Sun without breaking the bank. The filter's black-polymer film material lets you observe sunspots, eclipses, and more in delightful detail.

The Orion 4.00" ID E-Series Safety Film Solar Filter is more durable than other, thinner film solar filters thanks to its stronger black-polymer film filter material and lightweight, yet rigid cardboard solar filter housing. What's more, this low-cost filter will display the Sun in a pleasing yellow-orange color unlike the white or especially unnatural blue shade cast by some other film filters. The yellow-orange image of the Sun will reveal clear, high-contrast views of our nearest star in your telescope.

A strip of adhesive-backed felt is included to help ensure a secure friction-fit of the filter.

Before using any telescope for solar observing, make sure to install all dustcaps or other protective covers on all optical components such as finder scopes to keep sunlight from passing through them. Glancing through an uncovered optical system, even for an instant, can cause permanent eye damage. Always install protective caps on all optical instruments if left out during daylight hours.

This solar filter is designed and manufactured in the USA.

Orion assures that all solar filters are tested at specialized labs that are accredited to verify compliance with the ISO 12312-2 safety specifications for solar viewing.

CAUTION: Never look at the Sun, even for an instant, without a protective solar filter. Doing so can permanently damage your eyes.
