Orion Counterweights for Equatorial Mounts
Accepted Payment
  • Adding an additional counterweight lets you balance heavy payloads on an equatorial mount
  • Using extra counterweight can be very helpful when balancing heavy astrophotography gear and telescope setups
  • Orion counterweights feature a large tri-lobed lock-knob for easy grip - even while wearing gloves!
  • Nylon-tipped lock-knob won't scratch the counterweight shaft of your EQ mount
  • Available in two sizes: 7.5-pound counterweight compatible with Orion AstroView EQ and SkyView Pro EQ mounts, 11-pound counterweight compatible with Orion Atlas EQ-G and Sirius EQ-G mounts

Counterweights help optimize the performance of your Orion equatorial (EQ) mount by allowing you to balance the attached telescope for smooth, precise motion adjustments. If you acquire a telescope that is heavier than the one that came with your equatorial mount and tripod, you'll likely need additional counterweights to optimize balance of the system. You may also need an extra counterweight if you add a lot of heavy astrophotography gear to your system to help balance heavier camera-equipped loads. Available in 7.5-lb size for the Orion SkyView Pro equatorial mounts and 11-lb size for the Orion Sirius and Orion Atlas EQ-G GoTo mounts.
