As part of Orion's 40th Anniversary celebration, we reached out to some of our most loyal and long-term customers to help us look back and share some of the experiences they've had with Orion Telescopes & Binoculars over the years. Since 1975, the Orion team has been proud to offer superb customer service and support to our valued customers. Let's hear what longtime customer Michael Hamburg has to say.

Do you remember how or when you first heard about Orion Telescopes & Binoculars?
I first came upon the Orion name in Sky & Telescope [magazine] about 25 years ago.

Please share one of your most interesting or memorable stargazing experiences.
One of my most memorable experiences was showing Saturn through a 6" Orion Dobsonian mounted reflector for the first time to a bunch of inner-city high school students from my roof in Brooklyn.

What advice would you give to beginners who are interested in the hobby of amateur astronomy?
I recommend that beginners start simply: Learn the sky; use the naked eye and binoculars (Orion Mini-Giants are excellent); learn from whomever is willing to help; have patience.

Which Orion product do you most often recommend to fellow amateur astronomers?
I am a big fan of the 80mm ED refractor. It offers a wide field, relatively fast optics, quality construction, and pinpoint stars across the field of vision.

Do you have any memorable experiences with Orion Customer Service you would like to share?
Customer service helped me when I needed advice about repairing the rack-and-pinion focuser on my Orion 80mm ED refractor. The technicians did an excellent job with the repair.

Today, everyone at Orion is proud to continue our tradition of providing customers with the best service and support under the stars. We couldn't have reached our 40th Anniversary without help from customers like Michael Hamburg, and you too! Thanks for joining us, here's to 40 more years of affordable stargazing the Orion way!

Michael's Stunning Moon Image
Michael created this stunning image using a stack of several hundred frames of a wide-field image of the Moon with an Imaging Source video camera through the Orion 80mm ED refractor riding piggy-back on a Celestron Edge 11 HD CGEM. (Processed with Autostakkert 2, Registax 6, and Irfanview.)
