For stargazers, the phrase "as the world turns" means that celestial objects will drift out of your telescope's field of view ? due to the Earth's rotation. But with the Orion TD-2 Electronic 12V DC Tracking Drive, your target object will remain centered in the eyepiece for as long as you want to observe it.
Compatible with the Orion EQ-13 Equatorial Mount and telescopes that include the EQ-13 (see list below), the TD-2 Electronic Drive installs quickly on the equatorial mount. The drive's precision motor provides sidereal-rate tracking in right ascension, which is the rate that stars and deep-sky objects move across the sky. The included hand controller has forward and reverse slewing buttons at 2x and 4x speeds to facilitate centering objects in the telescope's eyepiece or moving to other, nearby objects. A simple thumbscrew "clutch" disengages the tracking motor from the right ascension gear, allowing use of the mount's manual slow-motion controls, when desired.
A switch on the hand controller lets you set it for Northern or Southern hemisphere; it works in both. A convenient holding bracket for the hand controller is included and straps onto a tripod leg via a hook-and-loop band. Just set the controller in the holder when you're not using it. The TD-2 runs on eight 1.5V AA batteries (not included), which the user installs in the battery case provided.
