  • More Info
    • Sharp 102mm (4.0") lens optics with 700mm focal length excel at resolving star clusters, nebular clouds and detailed views of the Moon and planets
    • Sturdy EQ-13 equatorial mount features a stainless steel tripod and slow-motion controls for convenient manual tracking of celestial objects
    • Two quality 1.25" Plossl eyepieces are included: a 25mm for 28x magnification, and a 10mm for getting in tight at 70x. Barrels are threaded to accept optional Orion filters
    • Highly portable: the optical tube can be removed from the mount quickly via the dovetail mounting system and carried separately
    • This kit enhances your viewing experience by including these useful accessories: a contrast enhancing Moon Filter, power-doubling Shorty 2x Barlow Lens, Red-Beam Flashlight, and our informative 174-page Telescope Observer's Guide and MoonMap.

The Orion AstroView 102mm EQ Equatorial Refractor Telescope Kit will delight new and even intermediate-level stargazers with its sharp optics, sturdy equatorial mount, and classical, low-maintenance design.

With an intermediate focal length of 700mm (f/6.9), the AstroView 102mm EQ has more magnifying power than "short tube" refractors but a wider field of view (1.9° with the included 25mm Plossl) than "long tube", longer focal length telescopes. The 102mm diameter (4.0") fully multi-coated achromatic objective lens excels at revealing mountains and craters on the Moon in vivid relief. It also provides enough light grasp to resolve brighter deep space curiosities like star clusters and nebular clouds. And because the Astroview 102 EQ is a refractor, its optics are precision aligned at the factory and never have to be adjusted by you! That's a nice benefit of a refractor compared to, say, a reflector telescope, which requires periodic collimation by the user.

At the back end of the AstroView 102 EQ's aluminum optical tube is a 2" aluminum rack and pinion focuser. It includes a step-down adapter to accommodate the included 1.25" 90-degree mirror diagonal and 25mm and 10mm Plossl eyepieces. These quality eyepieces provide magnifications of 28x and 70x respectively, and have barrels threaded for optional Orion 1.25" filters. The 2" focuser allows use of an optional 2" diagonal and 2" eyepieces, if desired, for breathtaking wider-field views. The included EZ Finder II red dot scope makes it easy to aim the AstroView 102 EQ precisely to your target.

The sturdy EQ-13 equatorial mount boasts smooth tracking capabilities, whether utilized manually with the slow-motion control cables provided or with an optional electronic drive for hands-free tracking. The adjustable-height stainless steel tripod features a twist-on accessory tray so you can keep any additional eyepieces and accessories within arm's reach. What's more, the mount is equipped with a Vixen-style dovetail saddle that allows you to quickly attach or remove the optical tube — which has a compatible dovetail mounting bar — without tools.

So if you're ready to discover the joys of astronomical observing with a capable refractor telescope on a sturdy equatorial mount, get the Orion AstroView 102mm EQ Equatorial Refractor Telescope. It will show you the best of what the night sky has to offer.

Cut the Moon's glare and see more detail on its surface with the Orion 13% Transmission Moon Filter.

This popular accessory reduces glare and boosts contrast so you can enjoy more-detailed views of lunar surface features. It blocks 87% of the Moon's brightness to provide a more comfortable view and reveal subtle details. It's a neutral density filter that will not alter the natural color of the Moon, either.

Double the power of any 1.25" telescope eyepiece with the Shorty Barlow Lens.

A great way to essentially double the number of telescope eyepieces in your collection, without having to buy twice as many eyepieces! Very compact — just 3" long (half the length of a standard Barlow lens). Doublet lens system is multi-coated for excellent transmission and the internal housing is baffled to eliminate unwanted reflections and increase contrast.

    Red Beam Mini Flashlight

See what you're doing in the dark with the Orion RedBeam Mini LED flashlight.

A red flashlight is needed to read materials and illuminate astronomy equipment at night. The Orion Redbeam Mini LED keychain flashlight emits pure red light that won't spoil your night vision. Perfect for reading your planisphere or MoonMap, and for seeing what you're doing at the telescope.

    OTOG book

Read the included Orion Telescope Observer's Guide and start exploring.

This 174-page guide for new telescope users will help you find, learn about, and view a variety of celestial objects. With a full page of information dedicated to each one, author Richard J. Bartlett leads you on a detailed tour of the night sky as he describes over 60 fascinating astronomical denizens that can easily be seen with a small telescope.
