  • More Info
    • Sharp 90mm (3.5") lens optics and high-power views make this equatorial refractor telescope the perfect instrument for viewing the Moon, planets, and bright deep-space objects
    • Attach the included Film Solar Filter to view the sun safely. This solar filter is designed and manufactured in the USA.
    • The sturdy equatorial mount lets you manually track celestial objects effortlessly as they move across the sky
    • Its beefier mount and superior accessories - including a quality 6x30 finder scope - put this beginning refractor in a class above most competing models
    • CAUTION: Never look directly at the sun, even for an instant, through a telescope without a solar filter installed that completely covers the front of the telescope

Beginning skywatchers looking for a telescope that can serve up vivid, sharp images of the Moon, planets, and brighter deep-space objects need look no further than the Orion Observer 90mm Equatorial Refractor Sun and Moon Kit. Refractor telescopes are coveted for their crisp, sharp images and their lack of needed maintenance by the owner compared to, say, reflector telescopes whose optics must be regularly re-aligned, or collimated.

This family friendly telescope boasts a 90mm-diameter (3.5"), fully antireflection coated achromatic lens of 900mm focal length. That means that with the 25mm and 10mm 1.25" Plossl eyepieces included — a cut way above the cheapie eyepieces many beginner telescope come with — you'll enjoy views at 36x and 90x, respectively. When aimed at our nearest neighbor in space, the Moon, the Observer 90 EQ telescope yields tack-sharp views of the rocky lunar surface with craters and mountainous regions visible in crisp, high-contrast detail. Both telescope eyepieces feature multi-coatings for great light transmission and are threaded for optional Orion filters. Also included is a 2x Shorty Barlow lens, which doubles the magnification of each eyepiece for incredibly high resolution of the moon and planets! The 1.25" rack and pinion focuser lets you dial in the perfect focus. This telescope is also equipped with a 6x30 finder scope to help you find and center your celestial target for viewing.

The Observer 90mm EQ telescope includes a sturdy equatorial mount designed specifically for astronomical viewing. With its dovetail mounting saddle, you can pop the optical tube on or off quickly for easy setup and transport. Dual slow-motion cables let you track objects manually to keep them centered in the eyepiece. The aluminum telescope tripod adjusts to a comfortable height and has a handy accessory tray for convenient storage of gear while you're probing the starry skies.

The Orion Observer 90mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope will provide you and your family with many evenings of heavenly browsing. The assembled telescope weighs just under 17 lbs.

As a bonus, this special telescope kit also includes a full aperture film solar filter that fits over the front of your telescope. This Orion white-light solar filter is designed to see sunspots and granulation around the sun spots on the solar disk. It is not a Hydrogen-alpha filter which shows prominence and solar flare detail. For that type of solar viewing, consider upgrading to a Coronado Solar Telescope. Also included is a glare-reducing moon filter to better observe the myriad details of the moon.

Orion assures that all solar filters are tested at specialized labs that are accredited to verify compliance with the ISO 12312-2 safety specifications for solar viewing.

Explore the fun of daytime astronomy with the included Safety Film Solar Filter.

In addition to stargazing at night, you can also use the Observer 90mm during daytime hours thanks to the included Safety Film Solar Filter, which lets you safely observe sunspots as they march across the surface of our nearest star. The solar filter rejects all harmful light from the Sun, while allowing a very small fraction of light to pass through, so you can safely enjoy the fun of daytime solar astronomy.

This solar filter is designed and manufactured in the USA.

Cut the Moon's glare and see more detail on its surface with the Orion 13% Transmission Moon Filter .

This popular accessory reduces glare and boosts contrast so you can enjoy more-detailed views of lunar surface features. It blocks 87% of the Moon's brightness to provide a more comfortable view and reveal subtle details. It's a neutral density filter that will not alter the natural color of the Moon, either.
