This Eclipse Kit comes with everything you need to enjoy safe views of the Sun and also includes useful tools to help you and your family prepare for the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. Kit includes the Orion AstroView 120ST EQ Refractor Telescope, a 5.87" ID Orion Deluxe Safety Film Solar Filter, the Orion 2017 Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Guide and a 5-pack of Orion Solar Eclipse Safe Viewing Glasses.
The included Orion AstroView 120ST Equatorial Refractor is a compact, rich-field telescope designed for wide-field observation of nebular clouds, star clusters, and even distant galaxies. The refractor telescope optical tube measures just 26" long including the dew shield, so it earns high marks for portability. Not limited to visual use, the fast f/5 optical system makes the AstroView 120ST an excellent refractor telescope to use for wide-field astrophotography in addition to observational astronomy. The Orion AstroView 120ST EQ Refractor has a big 120mm (4.7") clear aperture for great light gathering and big, bright views. The 120ST refractor telescope's achromatic objective lens has a short focal length of just 600mm for exceptional rich-field performance. With the included 25mm Plossl, the AstroView 120ST refractor covers a sprawling 2.1° swath of sky!
Attach this Deluxe Safety Film Solar Filter to the AstroView 120ST EQ Refractor Telescope to enjoy completely safe views of the Sun. The white-light Solar Filter features Baader AstroSolar Safety Film in a sturdy, clear-anodized aluminum cell. Orion Deluxe Safety Film Solar Filters display a neutral white view of the Sun's surface. Once attached to a telescope, this filter provides sharp, scatter-free views of sunspots, solar eclipses, planetary transits, and other solar phenomena. Four 1/16" thick, and four 1/8" thick adhesive foam tabs are included with each filter to achieve a proper friction-fit with the telescope. A tight press fit is required for safe solar viewing.
We're already excited about the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse! Events like eclipses certainly don't happen every day, and it's even rarer for the path of totality to be in our own backyard, or just a road trip away. If you want the best views of this rare event, you're in luck! Orion carries a full assortment of glass and safety film solar filters for telescopes and binoculars. We're your one-stop Solar Eclipse shop!
Each set of Orion Solar Eclipse Safe Viewing Glasses feature solar polymer film for safe direct viewing of the Sun. The solar film filters out 100% of harmful ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths of light, and they block 99.999% of intense visible light for a relaxing, comfortable and completely safe view of the Sun and the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. Since five pairs are included, you can safely share this rare experience with friends and family so no one feels left out!
The detailed Orion 2017 Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Guide is packed with useful hints and viewing tips written by eclipse enthusiast Stephen James O'meara to help you enjoy this rare spectacle from beginning to end. From first contact through totality and fourth contact, this guide explains everything you need to know and describes what to look for so you can understand and appreciate this awe-inspiring event.
The AstroView 120ST refractor telescope includes two 1.25" Sirius Plossl telescope eyepieces. Use the 25mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece for moderate views at 24-power. Boost magnification up to 60x with the 10mm focal length eyepiece for more powerful views. Each Sirius Plossl boast a wide, 52° apparent field-of-view. We recommend starting out with the 25mm eyepiece for a wider view, then once you've centered an interesting object, swap out the 25mm ocular for the more powerful 10mm eyepiece to take a closer look.
CAUTION: Never look at the Sun, either directly or through a telescope, without a professionally made protective solar filter installed that completely covers the front of the instrument, or permanent eye damage could result.
