Learn More About the E-Series 90AZ Refractor

Is the E-Series 90AZ Refractor Right for You?

The E-Series 90AZ Refractor is an excellent telescope for beginners who are looking for a portable system with a robust alt-azimuth mount and all the accessories needed to start exploring the night sky right away. This beginner-friendly refractor is not designed for astrophotography, although, with a simple smartphone adapter, you can easily capture quick photos and videos of your observations. Due to the 90 mm aperture, it doesn't perform well on dim deep sky targets under light-polluted skies, and the 600 mm focal length does not provide enough magnification to resolve surface details of the planets.

What You'll See and Why It Works.

The E-Series 90AZ Refractor features multi-coated optics with enhanced light transmission, a 90 mm (3.5″) aperture, and 600 mm focal length at a focal ratio of f/6.7. With the two included 1.25-inch Plossl eyepieces, you will enjoy exceptional views of our Moon, bright deep sky targets, such as the Orion Nebula (M42), and star clusters. Thanks to the 45° correct-image diagonal, this telescope is also a capable daytime spotting scope, producing upright and correctly oriented views of landscapes and distant terrestrial subjects. It also comes with a compact red dot finder that makes it easy to locate and center targets in the telescope's eyepiece. The telescope is paired with a robust alt-azimuth style mount with smooth slow-motion controls and a sturdy aluminum tripod.

What You Should Know Before You Buy

Is the E-Series 90AZ Refractor good for beginners?

Yes. The E-Series 90AZ Refractor is an excellent telescope for beginners because it is simple, portable, and comes with everything needed to start exploring right out of the box.

Does the E-Series 90AZ Refractor find objects automatically?

No. The E-Series 90AZ Refractor is fully manual. You point it yourself using the alt-azimuth mount and red-dot finder.

Does it track objects?

No. It does not track automatically. As Earth rotates, objects will drift through the eyepiece, and you manually nudge the telescope to keep them in view.

Can I take pictures with it?

Yes! However, you will need a smartphone adapter, which will let you take quick photos or videos of the Moon and bright planets. The E-Series 90AZ Refractor is not designed for serious long-exposure deep-sky astrophotography.

What comes with the telescope?

The E-Series 90AZ Refractor includes a 25mm and 10mm 1.25" Kellner eyepiece, a 90-degree correct-image diagonal, a red-dot finder, and a robust VersaGo E-Series mount and tripod. It also comes with a copy of Moon Map 260, a detailed water-resistant map of our largest natural satellite.

Is it portable?

Orion E-Series 90AZ Refractor is an excellent choice for those looking for a durable and lightweight telescope designed to tag along on all your adventures. The entire kit weighs just about 8.5 pounds, and it can be set up in less than five minutes!

What should I buy with it first?

The most useful first upgrades are a 2x Barlow lens, a higher-power eyepiece, a Moon filter, and a smartphone adapter.

Setup, Care, and Support

The E-Series 90AZ Refractor is pre-assembled at the factory and ships in a single box. Refractor telescopes require minimal maintenance; however, you may need to occasionally remove dust and debris from the external and optical surfaces. Before wiping the optical surfaces with a microfiber cloth and specialized optical cleaning solution, be sure to carefully remove dust and debris with a soft-bristle lens brush or lens blower.
