Learn More About the EON 70 mm ED Refractor

Is the EON 70 mm ED Quadruplet Astrograph Refractor Right for You?

The EON 70mm ED Quadruplet Astrograph Refractor is a high-performance telescope designed for both dedicated observers and astrophotographers seeking sharp, with true-color views of the night sky. At a focal length of 350 mm, this refractor is not a good match for those looking to capture photos of the planets. While the f/5 focal ratio is great for imaging deep-sky objects, the 70 mm aperture means this refractor won't perform well when viewing dim deep-sky objects under light-polluted skies.

What You'll See and Why It Works

With a 350 mm focal length and fast f/5 focal ratio, the EON 70mm ED Quadruplet Astrograph Refractor provides an ideal FOV for framing wide-field targets. Designed with one Hoya FCD-100 ED glass element that provides true-color views of the night sky and sharp images, this refractor easily resolves the fine details of the lunar surface, as well as many deep-sky objects. The heavy-duty 3″ dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser is constructed with precision-cut components designed to support heavier imaging equipment and accessories, and it even comes with a built-in rotator for customizable image framing. The included accessories, like CNC-machined tube rings, Vixen-style dovetail bar, carry handle, and hard case, make setup and transport easy as ever.

What You Should Know Before You Buy

Is the EON 70 mm good for beginners?

Yes. Thanks to the straightforward, portable, and low-maintenance design, the EON 70 mm is an excellent refractor for beginners.

Does the EON 70 mm find objects automatically?

No. The EON 70 mm does not include a telescope mount. In order to automatically track objects, you'll need to attach the optical tube to a computerized alt-azimuth or equatorial mount.

Does it track objects?

No. It does not track automatically. As Earth rotates, objects will drift through the eyepiece, and you manually nudge the telescope to keep them in view.

Can I take pictures with it?

Yes! The EON 70 mm is designed primarily for astrophotography use. For capturing long-exposure deep-sky astrophotos, you'll need a dedicated astronomy camera or digital camera, as well as a computerized mount that automatically tracks the night sky.

What comes with the telescope?

The EON 70 mm comes with (2x) tube rings and a dovetail bar, which are pre-installed on the optical tube at the factory. It also comes with an M54 to M48 adapter, M48 to M42 adapter, and a hard case featuring foam inserts.

Is it portable?

The EON 70 mm is an incredibly portable telescope, weighing in at just 8.5 pounds full assembled. When retracted, the total length is a mere 12.8 inches, making this refractor incredibly easy to transport. It also comes with a soft padded carry case for extra protection when on the move!

What should I buy with it first?

The most useful first upgrade is a guidescope to help with long exposures on computerized mounts.

Setup, Care, and Support

This Orion EON telescope is shipped with tube rings and a dovetail bar pre-installed. After opening the package, carefully lift the assembled unit out and gently place it on the dovetail bar.
