Learn More About the FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope

Is the FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope Right for You?

The FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope is an excellent telescope for beginners, families, and backyard observers who want bright visual views of the Moon, star clusters, and brighter deep-sky objects. It comes with a manual "table-top" Dobsonian base. It does not require batteries, apps, or computerized alignment, but it also does not automatically find or track objects. This is the right telescope if you want to how to navigate the night-sky and enjoy a simple “point and view” observing experience. It is not the right choice if you want GoTo object locating or a telescope built primarily for long-exposure astrophotography. Although, with the addition of a smartphone adapter, you can take beautiful images of the moon.

What You’ll See and Why It Works

The FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope is built for visual astronomy. Its 76 mm mirror gathers enough light to show much more than the Moon: you can observe brighter star clusters, bright nebulae, and some galaxies like Andromeda. What makes the FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope work well is the combination of a 76 mm spherical primary mirror, 300 mm focal length, and fast f/3.9 focal ratio. In other words, it has enough light-gathering power for bright views, enough focal length to perform well on the Moon and bright widefield targets, and a forgiving optical design that is easy for beginners to learn and master. A copy of MoonMap 260 is included to help you identify features across the lunar surface.

What You Should Know Before You Buy

Is the FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope good for beginners?

Yes. The FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope is a strong beginner telescope because it is simple, manual, and powerful enough to show bright views of the Moon, bright planets, and brighter deep-sky objects.

Does the FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope find objects automatically?

No. The FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope is fully manual. You point it yourself using the Dobsonian base and red dot finder.

Can I take pictures with it?

Yes! However, you will need a smartphone adapter, which will let you take quick photos or videos of the Moon and bright planets. The FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope is not designed for serious long-exposure deep-sky astrophotography.

What comes with the telescope?

The FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope includes a 25 mm and 6 mm 1.25" eyepiece, a red-dot finder, a 2x Barlow, and a classic table-top Dobsonian base. It also comes with a copy of Moon Map 260, a detailed water-resistant map of our largest natural satellite.

Is it portable?

The FunScope 76 mm Reflector Telescope features a user-friendly Dobsonian base that comes equipped with a built-in carrying handle for effortless portability. The telescope and base have a total weight of 4 lbs., meaning this telescope is incredibly easy to transport.

What should I buy with it first?

The most useful first upgrades are a Moon filter and a smartphone adapter.
