Learn More About the StarBlast 90 mm AZ Refractor

Is the StarBlast 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor Right for You?

The StarBlast 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor is designed for beginners who are looking for a portable system with everything needed to start exploring the night sky right away. This beginner-friendly refractor is not designed for astrophotography, although, with a simple smartphone adapter (not included), you can easily capture quick photos and videos of your observations. Due to the 90 mm aperture, it doesn't perform well on dim deep sky targets under light-polluted skies, and the 500 mm focal length does not provide enough magnification to resolve surface details of the planets.

What You'll See and Why It Works.

The 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor features multi-coated optics with enhanced light transmission, a 90 mm (3.5″) aperture, and 500 mm focal length at a focal ratio of f/5.6. With the two included 1.25" Kellner eyepieces, you will enjoy exceptional views of our Moon, bright deep sky targets, such as the Orion Nebula (M42), and star clusters. Thanks to the 45° correct-image diagonal, this telescope is also a capable daytime spotting scope, producing upright and correctly oriented views of landscapes and distant terrestrial subjects. It also comes with a compact finderscope that features correct-image diagonal, making it easy to comfortably locate and center targets in the telescope's eyepiece. The telescope rests on a compact alt-azimuth style mount and tripod with a slow-motion panning handle, sturdy adjustable stainless-steel legs, and a convenient accessory tray. All these accessories will fit neatly alongside the tripod and telescope OTA in the included travel bag.

What You Should Know Before You Buy

Is the StarBlast 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor good for beginners?

Yes. The StarBlast 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor is an excellent telescope for beginners because it is simple, portable, and comes with everything needed to start exploring right out of the box.

Does the StarBlast 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor find objects automatically?

No. The StarBlast 90mm AZ Travel Refractor is fully manual: you point it yourself using the alt-azimuth mount and 5x20 correct-image finder.

Can I take pictures with it?

Yes! However, you will need a smartphone adapter, which will let you take quick photos or videos of the Moon and bright planets. The StarBlast 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor is not designed for serious long-exposure deep-sky astrophotography.

What comes with the telescope?

The StarBlast 90 mm AZ Travel Refractor kit includes a 25 mm and 9 mm 1.25" Kellner eyepiece, a correct-image diagonal, a 5x20 correct-image finder, and it even comes with a convenient accessory pouch. The entire kit fits neatly alongside the tripod and telescope OTA in the included travel bag. It also comes with a copy of MoonMap 260, a detailed water-resistant map of our largest natural satellite.

Is it portable?

Orion StarBlast 90 mm Travel Refractor is an excellent choice for those looking for a durable and lightweight telescope designed to tag along on all your adventures. The entire kit weighs just under 10 lbs., and everything fits neatly inside the included travel bag

What should I buy with it first?

The most useful first upgrades are a 2x Barlow lens, a higher-power eyepiece, a Moon filter, and a smartphone adapter.
