4 The moon is a wonderful sight through a telescope, and the 1.25" Orion 25-percent transmission filter allows more lunar detail and surface features to be seen because it reduces the glare from the moon. Is is best for smaller-aperture telescopes.

This filter really brings out the details of the moon. It even worked great for viewing Venus. The filter removed the glare/brightness of Venus and allowed my wife and I to see it as a round object with a bit of detail.

When your 13% moon filter is too limiting, this filter does the trick. Well made, clean optics. Definitely lets you see greater detail on the moon's surface!

...for my brother, after I used an earlier purchase of it to win myself a lunar observing award through the Astronomical League. In fact, I've purchase multiples of these to give as gifts to friends who've newly acquired scopes that they'll almost certainly be pointing first at the Moon. I regard a lunar filter such as this one as a necessity that should come with a new scope, instead of the extra Barlow lenses that some Orion competitors provide. Not that I would ever eliminate Orion's wonderful inclusion of Starry Night software with a new scope, but most folks I've seen with a new scope only get around to investigating the software very belatedly, whereas they set up and get out to the Moon immediately.

Pros: must-have accessory!
Cons: orion doesn't include one with a new scope purchas
