You can't turn up the luminosity on nebulas, but you can crank up the contrast between them and the sky to reveal more of their wondrous detail. Our Oxygen-III telescope filter provides extremely selective filtration to bring out elusive detail in diffuse and planetary nebulas. It does so by transmitting close to 90% of the light corresponding to the two oxygen-III spectral lines at 496nm and 501nm while completely blocking virtually all other wavelengths. The results are remarkable. You'll see more detail than you ever could before in nebular gems such as the Swan, Ring, Dumbbell, Helix, and Eagle, to name a few. The O-III provides an even greater contrast boost on some objects than the UltraBlock narrowband telescope filter. And for nebulas, every little bit helps! Try the Oxygen-III telescope filter with a low-power 2" telescope eyepiece and take in the whole Veil Nebula. Wow!

I own both the 2" OIII and H-Beta filters. I have had no trouble with the threads but I have had thread problems with Lumicom and Thousand Oaks Filters with the threads will not screw into my TV EPs. I have had a Ultrablock will not screw into my TV I Barrowed from a friend. But it appears not to be limited to Orion but with others aswell. I do not see it to be a problem. You can see the Horsehead with a OIII from a dark site but a H-beta will be alot BETTER!!! The "Hook" of the horsehead is very noticable against IC 434. The Coccoon stands out against the star fields in Cygnus and can make out even more detail in M27, and the Orion Nebula as well. Overall a great Filter and a perfect Match if you own the OIII. Keep it up Orion

While not the most "aggressive" OIII filter I've looked though [most dim stars are still visible], this is certainly the best value I can find. It brings the veil nebula and other diffuse nebula straight from invisible to visible in my XT8 dob. I don't have easy access to a very dark sky, so effective filtering is a great help.

This 2 inch filter will screw into my Televue EP, but not my Lumicon filter slide or other accys. All my other filters fit both. Be cautious because of this problem.
