Introducing a must-have filter for any astrophotographer that doesn’t happen to live on Mauna Kea. With the 2" Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter you can take incredible deep-sky images under light-polluted skies with your Charge Coupled Device (CCD) or Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera. That’s because we custom designed the filter to selectively block the specific wavelengths of light associated with urban sky glow, letting the light emitted from deep-sky objects shine through. You’ll see a marked increase in contrast for all types of deep sky objects, even faint galaxies, which typically are suppressed through visual light pollution filters.

By blocking up to 99% transmission of the offending wavelengths, the SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter enables longer exposure times without background saturation. Because the white light spectrum remains largely intact, the color balance of the astrophoto is not affected, eliminating the need for corrective processing later.

The improvement in contrast achieved with the Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter is remarkable. Just look at the filtered and unfiltered actual image examples below:

Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Telescope Filter Comparison

With this telescope filter you can take long-exposure photographs of faint galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters from a light-polluted city, or from a suburban backyard brightened by a nearby street lamp. Your images will turn out better than you ever thought possible.

The SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter has a threaded aluminum cell and is available in 1.25" and 2" sizes. This 2" filter fits Orion 2" accessories, including the 2" Zero-Profile camera Adapter that couples a DSLR camera body with T-ring to a 2" focuser. The 1.25" filter threads into the nosepiece of our StarShoot CCD and similar cameras.

Don’t let light pollution spoil your deep-sky images! Get a 2" Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter today and enjoy vivid, high-contrast shots – from anywhere!

I have tried many other Light pollution reduction filters over the last 20 years as a Professional Astrophotographer, only to have dissappointing results. The New Orion 2" Sky Glow Filter is awesome!...it actually works as advertised, and blocks the light pollution very well and keeps it out of the image. I was able to capture both nebula, clusters, and galaxies in full detail with a nice neutral background with excellent color balance. All I can say WOW! Thanks for helping me combat the light pollution that now plagues my observing and imaging site. Best Regards, John ...

I have been using this filter for about two months now and it works great! It completely removed the gradient glow from the city lights in my photos, leaving all of my nebula data intact. I use it on all of my photos now. I have found that camera exposure length is the same with or with out the filter. The only con is I did not like the threads on the filter. They do not "feel" right while threading the filter on to my coma corrector.

I do most of my imaging from my driveway - urban neighborhood with high pressure sodium streetlights surrounding me. Since buying this filter, I've been able to increase my exposure times significantly, and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do from my local astronomy club's observatory location where the skies are much darker than my driveway. The only minor issue I have is the threads - they don't seem to match either of my 2" t-rings (including Orion's own 2" Zero-Profile Prime Focus Camera Adapter). They do thread together, it just seems that the threads aren't perfectly matched, so I only tighten them so the point where they just begin to feel snug; I'm afraid if I overtighten, I'll end up messing up the threads on something.

This filter has improved the quality of my imaging significantly. Skyglow is an issue from my home where I do most imaging. This filter lets me image with light from the moon and local light pollution. The price performance and blocking capabilities rival more expensive competition.
