Light pollution is waging war on amateur astronomy. But don’t surrender — fight back with this Orion SkyGlow broadband telescope filter!

This 2" SkyGlow Broadband telescope filter is an advanced multilayer "interference" filter that blocks the most common wavelengths of light pollution while passing desirable wavelengths with very little attenuation, yielding dramatically better deep-sky views.

It features improved blocking of mercury-vapor light and higher transmission at critical hydrogen-alpha and hydrogen-beta lines than competing filters. Bright, light-polluted skies appear much darker, and the contrast between object and sky is improved significantly.

Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Telescope Filter Comparison

Enhances All Objects
This contrast-enhancement effect is particularly apparent on nebulas. Unlike stars, emission nebulas give off light in a very narrow range of wavelengths. Orion SkyGlow telescope filters allow maximum transmission of the important wavelengths of hydrogen-alpha, hydrogen-beta, and doubly ionized oxygen-the ones most commonly emitted by nebulas. Views of galaxies and star clusters are also enhanced, although not as much.

Why suffer under light-polluted skies any longer? Buy your Orion SkyGlow light-pollution filter today. It really works!

I ordered two of these to use on my 15x50 Canon Image Stabilized Binoculars. Works great to view deepsky objects through the light pollution from my backyard. To fit the 58mm threads on the binoculars, I had to get a 58 to 48mm thread adapter for each filter.

Optically, this is an excellent filter at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, you can't use a filter if it won't thread on to your accessories. I've tried this on a wide variety of accessories. In the best case, it will thread most of the way on, but very tightly. In most cases it will only thread on by one thread before it jams, and in some cases only half a thread. This is a common problem with their 2" filters and I had the same problem with their Ultrablock.
Pros: good price
Cons: poor fitting threads
No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this filter for two purposes, 1) To enhance Nebulas 2) Reduce Light Pollution. It does both pretty good. First thing I looked at was M42 and it definitely enhanced it for great viewing. I also noticed the light pollution was reduced significantly. My problem with this filter is that it turned everything else a very green color. It does not make for observing anything other than Nebulas enjoyable. I now only use this filter when I am viewing Nebulas, I do not use it to block light pollution because all you are doing is swapping some light pollution for an equally annoying view of a green night sky. If you choose to buy this filter just make sure you understand that Nebulas are all that you will be viewing through it.

I have two of these. One on my Orion 120ST refractor in front of the Orion 2" dielectric diagonal, and one on my Celestron 150XLT refractor in front of the Orioin 2" dielectric diagonal. They work to perfection in my light polluted skies of east central Florida. They also reduce some of the false color in both of my achromatic refractors. This is a "two for the one" money deal for me. The only problem that I had was that after a few turns of the filter into the diagonal, it got very hard to tighten them down all the way. But, I got them on where they are secure, and have not worried about them since. They also seem to enhance certain deep space objects. I consider them a worthwhile addition to my equipment.
