That new Orion telescope of yours will show you lots of cool celestial objects - but only if you know where to look. And once you do spot something, wouldn’t it be nice to know what it is?

With the affordable Orion Beginning Stargazer’s Toolkit, you’ll never be "lost in space!" It contains four popular reference items and tools designed to help new astronomers and their families find their way around the heavens.

1. Orion Star Target Planisphere

This handy star-chart wheel makes it easy to see “what’s up” in the night sky any day of the year. Dial in your local date and time and it shows you the locations of the constellations and deep-sky objects in the night sky. You can even use the Orion Star Target planisphere chart to plan out a stargazing session in the future, or see what time of year your favorite constellation or star will be visible.

2. Discover the Stars
A wonderfully written and illustrated observer’s guide book which is a great reference for beginning astronomers and seasoned hobbyists alike. It’s filled with useful and educational information on the wonders of the night sky. Perfect for reading on cloudy evenings when the stars aren’t visible!

3. Moon Map

This immensely useful bi-fold map lets you identify craters and other lunar features you see on the Moon with your telescope. It’s even laminated for use on damp evenings without getting wet.

4. Orion RedBeam Mini LED flashlight
A red flashlight is needed to read materials and illuminate astronomy equipment at night. While a white flashlight would work too, it would decrease your dark-adapted vision at night, making it more difficult to get the most out of your observations. The Orion Redbeam Mini LED keychain flashlight emits pure red light that won’t spoil your night vision. Perfect for reading your planisphere or seeing what you’re doing at the telescope.

Orion wants your first night with your new telescope - and every night thereafter - to be fun and rewarding. That’s why we highly recommend this affordable and useful kit. It’s available only from Orion. Works great as a reference kit for astronomical binoculars too!

I bought this kit when I re-entered the astronomy hobby almost 10 years ago. It???s a good gift or beginner???s aid that covers three important bases: A planisphere is still a needed tool, even in this computer atlas age or if you have a more detailed field atlas (add a DeepMap 600 or Pocket Star Atlas to complete this kit for a serious beginner). The moon map will identify all the features visible with binoculars or most telescopes. Richard Berry???s Discover the Stars is a good constellation and observing guide (if you only want a guide like this instead of the kit, check out Patterns in the Sky or Turn Left at Orion, too. While my kids grew into Discover the Stars, some other styles might appeal more depending on the reader). The red light is another needed accessory for those first ???star parties??? and using these references on your own under the night sky.
For giving as a gift, a more detailed chart or atlas (DeepMap 600, etc.) really completes the kit for those passing thru beginner stage
Pros: good set of basic or beginner???s tools!
Cons: more options for constellation guides if that???s yo
Yes, I recommend this product!

These materials are very handy in locating stars and constilations and learing some of the facts about them.
Pros: a lot of good detail on object finder
Cons: object finder could be a few inces bigger, red beam light defective and exchanged, your web-site is very slow!
Yes, I recommend this product!

I recently received this kit to go with the Orion SkyQuest XT6 that I got in July. My two favorite items in this kit are the red light and the planisphere. The red light makes viewing my maps in the dark easier without compromising my vision. The planisphere makes seeing what is overhead much easier according to the day and time. It has the constellations, as well as some of the nebulas, galaxies, star clusters, etc. The moon map gives a good clear view of the moon with all the features numbered and named. Discover the Stars is a great book to start learning astronomy for someone like me who has little knowledge of the sky. It has maps for every month that show what is visible at that time. It also has numbered maps with more detailed information as well as small drawings of some of the deep sky objects as they would appear in small telescope. After checking the price of these items individually I found this kit was a GREAT value!
Favorite viewing location:??My yard in the country.
Favorite object to observe:??Saturn
