For the best performance from any truss Dob, a light shroud is a must. This one, custom designed for the SkyQuest XX14, is made of a stretchy nylon blend material that fits like a glove over the truss poles of the XX14, fastening with thick elastic bands on both ends. The water-resistant, opaque black fabric blocks stray light from entering the optical path, thus improving image contrast. It's also breathable, which minimizes unwanted vibration of the scope in breezy conditions. Use of the shroud will lessen the accumulation of dust and dirt on the mirrors during use, and will help prevent dew from forming on them. Made in the U.S.A.

This is a great light shroud. It fits tight (like it should), so make sure you take out any accessories like eyepieces, Telrad, etc. and slowly work the shroud over the top of the telescope. I like that it fits like a glove and can easily be slipped up or down to remove the mirror cover. You will never have issues with the shroud sagging into the light path, or allowing dew to drip down onto your primary since the bottom is flared outward to deflect any dew that accumulates. I have had it out on a particularly dewy evening and it performed flawlessly. I also like the classy sewed-on logo of "Orion" on the side.
