You'll go loony with delight when viewing the lunar surface with the help of our affordable Moon Madness Kit. This value-packed assortment of useful accessories lets you get the most out of each and every view of Earth's only natural satellite.
Improve contrast and reduce glare with the included Moon Filter.
When installed on a 1.25" telescope eyepiece, the included Orion 13% Transmission Moon Filter will bring out considerably more lunar surface details thanks to the boosted contrast. You can study these details comfortably, thanks to the Moon Filter reducing overall brightness without altering color. This neutral-density telescope eyepiece filter reduces irradiation, which is the distortion at the boundary between light and dark areas, such as along the lunar terminator. Using a Moon filter also helps conserve dark-adapted vision while viewing the lunar surface, especially when using big telescopes with 6" of aperture and larger.
Explore the lunar surface at varying magnifications with the Explorer II Zoom Eyepiece.
A twist of the housing of the included 7-21mm Orion Explorer II Zoom Telescope Eyepiece changes the focal length from 21mm to 7mm, or to any focal length in between. This makes it ideal for scanning the entire Moon at low magnification, then zooming in at higher magnifications for closer inspection of specific areas - without changing eyepieces! Actual magnification range will depend on the focal length of your telescope. With fully coated optics and exceptionally long eye relief ranging from 33mm to 16mm for comfortable views. Apparent field of view is 30° at 21mm and 43° at 7mm. The 1.25" barrel is threaded for filters, so you can install the Moon Filter for great lunar views.
Take a closer look with the powerful 6.3mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece.
The included high-power 6.3mm Sirius Plossl telescope eyepiece offers a wide 52° apparent field of view, ideal for high-magnification Moon viewing. The 6.3mm Orion Sirius Plossl Telescope Eyepiece yields extremely sharp scenes with impressively high contrast, and it is ideal for all types of telescopes: reflector, refractor, and catadioptric. The Plossl 4-element eyepiece design is renowned for its outstanding performance. This powerful 6.3mm eyepiece is threaded for use with 1.25" filters such as the included Moon Filter.
Plan observing adventures and learn names of features with the MoonMap 260.
The included Orion MoonMap 260 is a useful reference map of the Moon's surface that will help the whole family learn the names and locations of more than 260 craters, mountains, valleys, "seas" and other interesting lunar features you can explore with your telescope. Use the MoonMap 260 to identify craters you've observed, or use it before you go out with a telescope to plan a night full of Moon-watching family fun.
Wear Orion AstroGoggles before observing for better dark-adaptation.
To get the most out of your observations, you need your eyes to be sufficiently dark-adapted and optimized for low-light viewing. The red Orion AstroGoggles included in this kit are designed to help your eyes adjust to the darkness quickly, to both save time and optimize your views. Put them on about 30 minutes before you plan to observe to easily prepare your eyes for night sky explorations through your telescope. With your eyes dark-adapted, you'll be able to notice more subtle features and details in the objects you explore.
