I've done visual astronomy for 30 years or so, but have always wanted to share what I've seen, so when the technology became available, I got into imaging. I have 2 Canon cameras, but am having more fun with the little Starshoot G3, as it actually requires less post processing to come up with a useable image. It also allows me to image smaller objects with more detail.

Date Taken: 01/04/2014
Photographer: Michael Heim
Location: New Middletown OH
Telescope: Orion ShortTube 80 Refractor Telescope Optical Tube Assembly
Other Mount: Celestron CG5
Camera: Orion StarShoot G3 Deep Space Monochrome Imaging Camera
Processing: DSS, Photoshop, Carboni's Toolbox
Exposure: 5X900 sec
Other Equipment Used: Orion 50mm guidescope, Orion StarShoot AutoGuider, Orion H filter
Notes: I posted this because of the unusual optical train used for imaging. I was looking for a wider field with the Starshoot, so I used my guidescope as my imaging scope. Using a narrowband filter allows this to work without having bloated stars due to color focusing issues. Also I shrunk Alnitak slightly. It did not disturb the surrounding nebulosity, and have never seen an image of this object where Alnitak didnt ruin the image near the "bridge" between the horsehead and the Flame.
