NGC 7000 - North America Nebula
I have been into amateur astronomy since 1997 when I bought my first telescope, a 6" Orion Deep Space Explorer. 2 years ago I sold that scope and bought an Orion XT12G 12" dobsonian with goto/tracking. In additional to spectacular visual views the scope allowed me to take some really good planetary images with a Celestron Neximage camera. About a year ago I got into deep-space imaging with the imaging rig described in this image post.

Notes: NGC 7000 also known as the North America Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, close to Deneb (the tail of the swan and its brightest star). The remarkable shape of the nebula resembles that of the continent of North America, complete with a prominent Gulf of Mexico. It is sometimes incorrectly called the "North American Nebula".Image composed from 3 hours of data (36 5 minute ISO 800 exposures) calibrated with 30 flat frames, 30 dark flat frames and 12 dark frames.Telescope: Orion ED80T CF Triplet APO RefractorMount: Atlas EQ-G Guiding: Orion SSAG with 50mm guide scope.Software: Backyard EOS for camera control and image acquisition, PHD for guiding, DeepSkyStacker to calibrate and stack images, Photoshop CS 5.1 for post-processing.Images captured at the Howell Woods Environment Learning Center in Johnston Country, NC.June 15, 2013.
