Our pleasantly portable Orion Paragon HD-F2 Heavy Duty Tripod is ideal for use with spotting scopes, cameras, big binoculars, and smaller refractor and Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes.

For anything more than casual use you need a field tripod that’s very stable, strong enough to withstand some serious abuse, and yet moves with fluid smoothness. Our Paragon HD-F2 Heavy Duty tripod fills the bill, providing heavy-duty support for giant astronomy binoculars, cameras, spotting scopes, and telescopes such as the Orion ShortTube 80 Refractor telescope, Apex 90, 102 and 127 Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes, and more.
The Orion HD-F2 Paragon Tripod is constructed almost exclusively of aluminum, making it stronger at key stress points where other tripods fail. It features large, adjustable aluminum-tube legs with robust lock lever clamps for convenient setup and takedown. Each leg features graduated reference etchings so you can quickly and easily extend each leg to the same preferred length - a great timesaver when trying to setup gear in a hurry. The tripod legs are tri-braced to the center elevator housing for extra stability. The tripod is 72" tall when fully extended, putting big astronomical binoculars comfortably at eye level for most people.

The Orion Paragon HD-F2 Heavy Duty Tripod comes with a precise, two-way fluid-type pan head. It features tension adjustment knobs on both axes for wonderfully smooth, controlled altazimuth motion. The pan head can be raised or lowered on its aluminum rack-and-pinion elevator post with a hinged hand crank. Panning is easy with the 11"-long adjustable handle. A quick-release 1/4"-20 dovetail shoe makes attaching and detaching your instrument from the pan head a snap. Other nice tripod features include convertible cushion/spike feet and built-in bubble level.

Each tripod leg measures 1-3/16" in maximum diameter. The Paragon HD-F2’s elevator shaft is 1" in diameter, with 13-1/2" of travel. Height fully extended 72"; folds to 31-1/2". Weighs 7.5 lbs.

The tripod I first ordered from Orion came with a defective head. It had too much "slop" in the azimuth direction and would not sit still.
Orion has an excellent return policy, however, and they sent me a new one -- no questions asked. This one is much, much better, and works to my satisfaction. That's why I only buy telescope equipment from Orion -- you can always count on them to make things right.
