EQ-2 Equatorial Mount

I replaced the mount from my StarBlast 6 telescope to the EQ-2 Equatorial mount for several reasons. It is easier for me to stand while gazing into the night or day sky and much easier to move from place to place. I also find that having the ease of adjusting declination and Right ascension is far easier with the EQ-2 than it was using the small base that required manual movements of the base itself. I also get less vibration with making the adjustments and focusing of the scope. This is a high quality product and one that I would recommend for mounting your scope on to.

I use this mount with my Orion ED-80 Refractor OTA. It has proven to be an economical mount as it is inexpensive. With the added clock drive it has proven to b quite adequate in accurately driving my telescope for visual observing.
After months of bouncing around in the camper of my pickup truck, screws and bolts can come loose. However, they are all easily accessible for repair with hand tools.
Recently I lent this mount out to someone who was a bit rough with it and forced the RA so that the RA gear was riding over the worm gear instead of engaging it. However, there was no damage as all I had to do was readjust the gear engagement by readjusting the gear holder. It required the loosening two bolts and then re-tightening them after repositioning the worm gear..
I use this setup as a quick grab-and-go telescope. I also wanted to learn how to set up a German Equitorial Mount. This setup fit the bill perfectly.
Favorite viewing location:??My Astronomy club's site
Favorite object to observe:??With my ED-80 I like to view planets and wide field open star clusters
Pros: lightweight, economical
Cons: liminted declination slow motion control
Yes, I recommend this product!

EQ-2 Equatorial Telescope Mount with Clock Drive

I have purchased this EQ-2 Telescope Mount and related clock drive for use with a 3 inch, F-12, home built refractor. I am very happy with its stability and ease of use. And it makes for a very transportable unit. It is relatively light weight, but I still find it quite adequate for this size telescope, and probably even one a little larger. I can recommend this product.

I got this mount with my Starmax 102 scope. If anything this mount was too much for scope. Vibrations dampen out in less than a second. Relatively light and will work great with almost any scope that doesn't overload it (about 10-12 lbs depending on thelength of the OTA
