For beginning stargazers who want a starter telescope capable of providing more oomph, more performance than a traditional 60mm refractor, we present the Orion Observer 70mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope. Compared to a 60mm refractor, the Observer 70 EQ can reveal an even greater variety of stellar gems and provide greater resolution of old favorites like the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Orion Nebula. The Observer 70 Equatorial Refractor is easy for anyone in the family to operate, and its affordable price makes it a great telescope to start with as you discover the rewarding hobby of amateur astronomy.

The Orion Observer 70 EQ Refractor Telescope features a multi-coated, achromatic glass objective lens that’s 70mm in diameter, with a focal length of 700mm (f/10). This glass lens takes in 36% more light than a 60mm lens for brighter, clearer views. Bottom line: you’ll see more than you would through telescope with a smaller aperture.

The refractor telescope optical tube is crafted from black-enameled aluminum and outfitted with a smooth-action, 1.25” rack-and-pinion focuser on one end and a dew cap/glare shield on the other. The telescope tube is held in quick-releasing tube rings on the Orion EQ-1 equatorial mount. Also made of aluminum, the EQ-1 mount supports the telescope and mimics the rotational axes of the Earth, which in turn allows you to manually "track" celestial objects with the Observer 70 refractor using slow-motion controls. For added convenience, an optional EQ-1M electronic drive (sold separately) can be installed to provide automatic, hands-free tracking.

The telescope tube and equatorial mount are supported on a sturdy aluminum tripod that adjusts to a comfortable height for virtually any observer. This telescope looks so good; you’ll want to keep your Observer 70mm refractor on display when you’re not using it!

The Observer 70mm Equatorial Refractor comes with everything you need to start observing right away, including a 90° star diagonal, EZ Finder II reflex sight, and 25mm and 10mm Explorer II telescope eyepieces. The 1.25” 25mm telescope eyepiece will provide 28x power magnification, while the 1.25” 10mm eyepiece boosts your views up to 70x power for closer looks.

This Observer 70mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope is a great choice for those just getting started in astronomy. It is lightweight and compact so it’s easy to carry to your observing location, be it out on the lawn or an hour’s drive into the hills. The telescope offers optical performance that will keep any observer entranced, evening after evening. Get in on the fun and get an Orion Observer 70mm Equatorial Refractor Telescope today!

Great Telescope

My wife got me this telescope for my Christmas present. Needless to say, I am crazy about my telescope. Putting the telescope together took about 30 minutes. It took me a while to fully understand how to use the 25mm and 10mm lens. Now, both of us take turns looking at the Moon's surface and the planet Jupiter. I would recommend this telescope to anyone who is a beginner like me.

I was given this as a gift; it was a recommendation by a sales rep to my girlfriend. Very easy to quickly assemble everything. After several viewing sessions, I have been happy with the performance of the telescope and would recommend it as an affordable starting point for anyone new astronomy and not wanting to get to heavily invested. I was very quickly picking out the bands and moons of Jupiter and admiring details of our own moon's surface. I plan on getting a x2 barlow and moon/light filters soon for it.
A couple complaints I do have about it is the focus wheels needed to be adjusted a bit, as they slipped a bit when trying to focus. Also, the RA and declination cables of the EQ mount feel a little wobbly, but they work fine.
Overall though, I am satisfied with this product.

I've owned this scope for about a year or so now and just love it. Great optics and excellent overall quality. I use it mostly for the Moon and planets. Nice and sharp images. Even at 140X. I bought an Orion 2X shorty barlow with it also, which I would recommend. The red dot finder works well and is easy to adjust. I do wish they gave you the option of ordering this scope with an optical finder though. It can be hard to star hop under light pollution without any magnifying power. A 6X30 finder would be nice. I also bought the motor drive with the hand control. It works great, although in some parts of the sky the counterweight hits the motor housing. Overall, this telescope is an excellent product and I give it 5 stars.

This is one amazing telescope! I have had the Orion Observer for a little over a year now and I am always amazed at the quality that was put into this product. From the rock steady tripod to the optics and gearing for the pan and tilt this was one greatbirthday present. I have taken some stunning photos of the moon by just using a point and shoot digital camera and the 10 mm eye piece that is included. I am also in love with the Starry Night astronomy software that came with this telescope. The software for months was always running on my computer so I could get ahead by one day to plan my night observations. Lost alot of sleep over several months just staying out way to late observing.
