12.5mm Orion Edge-On Planetary eyepieces bring flat-field performance to solar system viewing in the form of three high-magnification focal lengths. Each employs a sophisticated 7-element lens design reminiscent of exotic, high-priced oculars to provide a sharp focus all the way to the edge of their wide 55-deg apparent field of view. The barrel distortion and field curvature aberrations common in standard telescope eyepiece designs are virtually gone. Edge-On Planetary eyepieces let you push the power, whether you're canvassing the lunar terminator or studying the Jovian cloud belts. The 7-element optics are fully multi-coated for high light transmission, and each eyepiece has 20mm eye relief for viewing comfort. Other nice touches: blackened lens edges, pop-down rubber eyeguards, and barrels threaded for 1.25" filters. Barrel diameter: 1.25".

Love this new eyepiece. Used it to view the moon overnight and the crystal clear view was incredible! Sharp all the way to the edge. I'm glad I didn't have to strain my eyes with the great eye relief as well. Recommend this to anyone. I bought the set with the 6mm and 3mm as well. Great stuff!

I like the heft, size and usability of the planetary eyepiece, but really, I don't see any apparent improvement in view over a good lessor priced plossi eyepiece and it has a very similar field of view. It does not have the advertised eye relief at all..you still have to get your eye real close to view thru it like a plossi, so that is dissappointing. I think this eyepiece may have just a very slight advantage in the contrast, but at the expense of just a tiny bit less bright view over a plossi. Both those aspects are minimal differences, but it was my first impression using it. It'a a great eyepiece, no doubt about that, but not what its touted to be in my opinion after using it.

I have a 4.7" f/8.3 achromat. I've had several clear nights with windy conditions to test the Orion 12.5mm edge on eypiece. It provided sharp, detailed views of saturn and the moon at 80x with my refractor. This eyepiece is sharp to the edge. I watchedlunar features as they drifted out of the edge of the field. Craters are as sharp at the edge as they are at the center of the field. While this is designated as a "planetary" eyepiece, I found the views exceptional again at 80x with M- 51, M109, M-13, and several open clusters. I cannot wait to test it further under pristine observing conditions.

This eyepiece yields 200X with my 150mm refractor...perfect for planetary study! I think what I truly enjoy, however, is the wonderful eye relief. I can actually show planets at high power to uninitiated folks. I haven't heard, "I can't see anything..." a single time. Again, a fabulous EP, and a great alternative to those TV "jewels" costing about twice as much as my car payment.
